The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has bettered its goal of reducing its energy intensity by 20% from 2005 levels by 2020.

“We have exceeded this target and thus far reduced our energy intensity by [more than] 21.9%,” Singapore’s Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing told the 36th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting Opening Ceremony.

The 10-member bloc has also made progress on its ambitious Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline project with some 3600 kilometres of cross-border pipelines now connected across six nations.
