The pressure group claimed the joint communique of the 40th Asean ministerial meeting, which expressed members’ concern over the impact of global warming and climate change, lacked any real substance.

It also said there appeared to be no commitment to address the issue.

Greenpeace’s South-East Asia climate and energy campaigner Jasper Inventor said: “The fact that we are already experiencing the catastrophic impacts of climate change demands that governments in the region start taking aggressive action that goes beyond the mere rhetorical concern typically expressed in such political gatherings.”
