Batista, who was once the richest person in Brazil and is now under investigation for market manipulation and insider trading, in an interview with the local Folha newspaper said the fall has been a "huge blow" to his family.
"I never had the intention to deceive investors," Batista told the newspaper in a statement. "Oil exploration is a risky activity. I never used privleged information to do business."
