The company produced 124.7 million barrels of oil equivalent over the six months to 31 December, down 5% on the 131 million boe produced over the same period a year earlier.
BHP blamed the drop in production on lower gas volumes which it said reflected the deferral of development activity at its onshore US assets, as well as natural field decline at conventional assets.
