"Our conclusion is that [unconventional oil] is an incremental technology," Geraldine Slattery, the company's general manager of onshore US gas, told attendees at an industry conference in Houston.
However, the company has a rosier outlook for the long-term viability of producing gas from shale formations.
"We see oil being a decade-long, or two-decades-long phenomenon,” she said. “We see gas being a multi-decade phenomenon."
