US regulators have given US Gulf operators a six-month extension to implement a new directive on plug and abandonment obligations for Outer Continental Shelf properties.
The reprieve follows an industry outcry, especially from smaller and midsized players, after US offshore agencies begun to phase in sharply stiffer financial requirements for companies to prove they can afford to decommission properties they explore and produce.
