After taking the unit on charter last week, BP said drilling started at the weekend on the first well in the programme on the Loyal field, where two initial producer wells and one injector well will be drilled before the unit moves to the Schiehallion field.
It was originally hoped drilling would begin last week but this was delayed slightly by unusually high sea currents in the area, Upstream understands.
