James Dupree, BP's chief operating officer for reservoir development technology, said during a breakfast session at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston that the supermajor is funneling 30% of its R&D efforts into areas like imaging, 20,000-psi pressures, digital monitoring and enhanced oil recovery.

"The technology vision is changing inside of BP," Dupree said.

One of BP's goals, he said, is to reduce the time it takes to develop new technology.
