The German operator has applied to the authorities to drill an additional five wells at the North Sea field to augment the existing two producing holes, with the work due to kick off in early 2017, Wintershall’s drilling & wells chief Ellen Braune told an Oslo rig seminar on Thursday.

Braune said drilling work would continue until 2020 though could be extended until 2025 given a plethora of prospective leads at the North Sea field that started producing in 1993 and was originally due to be shut down in 2005 before Wintershall took over operatorship from Statoil in 2013.
