According to a statement from the state's Oil and Gas Division, the release occurred Friday at the Goodnight Midstream-operated Dahl SWD #1 well site about 10 miles northeast of Keen township in McKenzie County.
The company has so far recovered four barrels of oil and 420 barrels of brine and the clean-up is continuing.
The spill was contained within the secondary steel containment system on site, the division said.
