The London-listed company said it has instructed its legal team to file a notice of dispute under the UK-India Investment Treaty in the wake of Tuesday’s draft assessment order from the Indian Income Tax Department.
The treaty requires a period of negotiations to be entered into by the government of India and Cairn Energy, after which the dispute would go to an international arbitration panel if it is not resolved.
