The state's Air Resources Board (ARB) voted last week move forward with a final rule limiting the amount of methane operators are allowed to emit and requiring quarterly inspections and reports.

The rule will include requirements for testing, capturing and reporting methane emissions at onshore and offshore production operations, storage facilities, gathering and processing plants, and compressor stations throughout California.

The Aliso Canyon leak was discovered in October of last year on an injection well at a Southern California Gas-operated storage facility near Los Angeles and was not sealed until February.
