Employment in the oil sands sector is set to rise over the next four years at a slow and steady pace with up to 3500 new jobs in support of ongoing operations, maintenance and turnarounds.

The latest labour forecast from PetroLMI - a Canadian labour market consultancy - estimates employment will rise 6% between 2016 and 2020 as companies focus on sustaining operations rather than announcing plans for new projects.

 

In 2016 employment was estimated at 63,800 compared to a forecast of 67,200 jobs in 2020.
