Carnarvon confirmed on Tuesday it had been awarded the WA-524-P permit on the flanks of the Dampier sub-basin.
Tuesday’s announcement confirms comments Cook made to Upstream last week that the company was set to be awarded acreage on the North West Shelf near the Stag and Wandoo oilfields.
The 1210 square kilometre permit lies on the Enderby Terrace, which Carnarvon said contained a number of untested play types in a proven basin.
