The Office of Natural Resources Revenue (ONRR) said Chesapeake had failed to comply with the 2011 order to fix its accounting after the agency flagged up repeated, systemic errors” in the documents.
Those documents included mis-reported and under-reported volumes for more than 100 leases on tribal lands.
The problems have since been corrected but ONRR said Chesapeake knowingly misrepresented the production for years.
