The case builds off federal charges levied against Chesapeake co-founder Aubrey McClendon earlier this year, which accused the oilman of masterminding an antitrust conspiracy.
McClendon died in a car crash in Oklahoma City the day after the charges surfaced. The charges were eventually withdrawn, but Ward, who left Chesapeake in 2006 to found SandRidge Energy, was thought to be an unnamed party implicated in the case.
