The San Ramon, California-headquartered oil giant is to take a 30% interest in blocks C8, C12 and C13 in a deal the company said would expand its opportunity set in west Africa.
The three blocks cover a contiguous area of around 6.6 million gross acres in water depths ranging between 1600 metres and 3000 metres.
Dallas, Texas-based Kosmos Energy retains a 60% operatorship interest in the acreage during the exploration phase with the remaining 10% held by the national oil company Societe Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures et de Patrimoine Minier (SMHPM).
