Chevron, which is headquartered in California's Bay Area, said the ruling was reflective of the company's "inclusive work environment".
"Today's Supreme Court ruling is consistent with Chevron’s long-standing philosophy on inclusion and diversity in our workforce and in the communities where we operate," the company said in a statement late on Friday.
"We value and demonstrate respect for the uniqueness of individuals and the varied perspectives and talents they offer," Chevron said, pointing out that the company has earned a "perfect" 100% score on the Corporate Equality Index for 10 years running.
