Liu’s appointment has dismissed earlier speculation that vice president Wu Guangqi was set to be elected as the company’s president.
Liu has been serving as CNOOC’s vice president since 2010 and is currently the chairman of China Oilfield Service Ltd and Offshore Oil Engineering Company, both service and engineering outfits of CNOOC.
Born in 1958, Liu graduated from Huazhong University of Science & Technology with a bachelor degree in internal combustion engine design.
