Coastal filed a notice of arbitration last week with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre against the two companies.

CIMC and Dynamic had signed a shipbuilding contract to deliver a JU 2000E F&G design jack-up drilling to Coastal's subsidiary Thaumas Marine on 30 April, or before a cancellation date of 30 June.

However, the jack-up was not delivered to Thaumas until 11 September, 73 days after the cancellation date.

Under the terms of the contract, Coastal says the co-builders are liable for damages of $50,000 per day for each day past the 30 June deadline, up to a maximum of $5 million.

Coastal says this means CIMC and Dynamic are liable for damages of more than $3.6
