Juan Manuel Santos and Timoleon Jimenez 'Timochenko' met in Havana to announce an agreement on principle on crucial points on negotiation, including judicial treatment of past offenses and a timeline to lay down arms.
"The deal on transitional justice removes a major hurdle, responsible for the peace process' stalemate since late 2014," consultancy IHS said in a note.
"A formal bi-lateral ceasefire is now highly likely in the run-up to the final agreement scheduled for March 2016."
