Colombia’s President-elect Ivan Duque took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce Maria Fernanda Suarez as his new mining and energy minister.

"With her we will promote greater diversification of the energy matrix, social and environmental responsibility, and efficiency and competitiveness in the sector," Duque said in a tweet.

Suarez, a 44-year-old executive vice president of state-owned Ecopetrol, will replace German Arce in August when Duque takes office.

She has held senior positions at several banks including Citibank and Bank of America, and served as director of public credit at the finance ministry.
