The PSA is throwing its weight behind the guidelines issued by DNV GL following an investigation into an incident involving the semisub COSL Innovator last December in which a worker was killed and four others injured after a monster wave smashed into the unit’s accommodation deck while it was working at Statoil’s Troll field.
The guidelines for wave in-deck impacts, which concern calculation of potential wave heights for semisubs and dimensioning to withstand associated pressures, could require some rigs to undergo modifications including sealing of windows.
