Employees in Alaska and Oklahoma have begun to receive pink slips as part of the worldwide cutbacks.
In Oklahoma, employees at the Bartlesville and Ponca City offices began to learn of layoffs.
Company spokeswoman Tracy Harlow in Bartlesville told the Associated Press laid-off employees will receive severance pay and outplacement services.
Between 4% and 5% of ConocoPhillips' 3,000 employees in Bartlesville will be laid off, she said, and that it is the company's goal to let employees know by the end of March if they will be let go.
