The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC) levied the fine after finding that Consol had violated provisions of the state’s Oil & Gas Act as well as the Fish & Boat Code.

The pair will split the fine, with DEP taking $345,750 and PFBC getting $105,000.

“Protecting the waters of the Commonwealth is a core function of both DEP and the PFBC and this agreement underscores the fact that, together, we take this responsibility very seriously, said Eric Gustafson, manager for oil and gas operations in the DEP’s Southwest Oil and Gas District Office.
