Cuadrilla sought planning permission to drill, hydraulically fracture and test the flow of gas from up to four exploration wells on each of its two sites, one at Preston New Road and the other at Roseacre Wood, in Lancashire.
However, the local council rejected both applications, citing “visual impact, unacceptable noise and traffic concerns”, despite a positive report from Lancashire County Council planning officials, which lead Cuadrilla to appeal the ruling.
