Production has kicked off from the delayed Cygnus gas development in the UK southern North Sea, operator Engie E&P UK has confirmed.

First gas exports to the Bacton terminal in north Norfolk began mid-week, about a year behind the original schedule.

The sizeable development — located in blocks 44/12a and 44/11a about 150 kilometres off Lincolnshire — holds proven and probable reserves of about 110 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Gas production is expected to plateau at rates of about 250 million cubic feet per day, the operator said.
