Semi-submersible Noble Paul Romano gained a one-well extension from September through December this year with Hess. The US independent has had the rig under contract since last September.
The new dayrate is $128,500, a 58% percent drop from the previous rate of $304,000.
The sharp decline in dayrate underscores the immense pressure on drillers to keep their rigs active, even if it means agreeing to dayrates that are below cash-flow breakeven.
