Buru began swabbing operations on the well last month and revealed this week that it recovered about 500 barrels of lost drilling fluid followed by formation fluid similar to that found at the nearby Ungani oilfield, but with no indications of movable hydrocarbons.

“This is obviously a disappointing result, but the extension of the Ungani dolomite with well developed reservoir characteristics some 15 kilometres along trend is encouraging,” Buru chairman Eric Streitberg said.

“We will now have a close look at the data to try and determine why the well did not have any movable oil in the reservoir.”

Hopes were high for Praslin-1 after it hit a gross 23-metre oil bearing interval at the top of the Ungani Dolomite section.
