Twenty rigs working off Norway have gained compliance with DNV GL’s new air-gap measurement guidelines to handle heavy wave impacts in harsh sea conditions issued in the wake of an earlier fatal accident involving the COSL Innovator.
However, the classification outfit is carrying out ongoing assessments of another 10 active units that could be at risk as part of a regulatory crackdown by the authorities to prevent similar accidents.
