Joint venture partner Carnarvon Petroleum revealed the jack-up Noble Tom Prosser had started drilling the Roc-1 well in WA-437-P on Tuesday.
Roc-1 is interpreted to contain a larger volume of recoverable oil than last year's Phoenix South discovery, at a shallower depth, with a best case estimate of 42 million barrels of oil.
The well is expected to take between 50 and 60 days to drill and, if successful, Quadrant plans to re-enter the well bore in the third quarter of 2016 for testing and coring.
