The Thalin-1 well in Block AD-7 was spudded on 20 January 2016, said the operator Woodside.
Woodside farmed in to the acreage in 2012 for a 40% interest with Daewoo on 60%.
Daewoo is an experienced operator in Myanmar, having discovered and developed the large Shwe offshore gas deposit, which is adjacent to Block AD-7.
Woodside is fresh from making its inaugural deep-water discovery earlier this year with the Shwe Yee Htun-1 exploration well in Block A-6.
