52-year-old Echeverry is to take up the new role on 6 April, the Bogota-headquartered company said.

The operator confirmed in December that Javier Gutierrez would be stepping down from the top job after eight years.

Ecopetrol’s board said that Echeverry was chosen after a three-stage recruitment process for his extensive knowledge of economics, his ability to lead processes of change and his experience in public administration as well as prior experience as member of the Ecopetrol board.
