Ecopetol said that on Tuesday afternoon "hooded people threw bottles filled with fuel" at its Nabors PX44 rig, located in the El Triunfo municipality of Acacias.
The attack, which occurred at one of the five new holes the company is drilling in the area, followed threats from local community leaders who are demanding that Ecopetrol hire more staff.
According to the company, the local leaders want the personnel required to operate each rig to double, however, Ecopetrol insists that this "is not feasible in the current oil price".
