Ecopetrol will now operate the field with a 98% interest, while Equion and Emerald will together retain a 2% interest.

Discovered by supermajor BP, Cusiana, located between the municipalities of Tauramena and Aguazul in the prolific Casanare basin, was the largest oilfield in Colombia in the 1990s.

The field reached its peak production in late 1998 with 302,330 barrels per day of oil, which at the time represented more than 37% of all Colombian production.
