The state-owned operator is looking to develop the frontier Arctic field using a ship-shaped floating production, storage and offloading vessel after dropping an earlier concept that would have entailed a semi-submersible production unit with crude pipeline to onshore terminal due to high costs.
Statoil is looking to make a final investment decision on the stalled project next year, with production start-up targeted for 2022, but has apparently discarded an electrical cable from shore to power the unit as part of its plans for development of the field.
