Both companies are recent additions to PNG's oil and gas landscape; Total is the operator of the proposed Papua liquefied natural gas project, while Repsol acquired Talisman Energy, which had built up a fairly large gas resource in Western Province.
At the PNG Advantage 2015 conference in Brisbane today, Total's senior vice president for Asia Pacific, Olivier de Langavant, said Total is "committed to developing the Papua LNG project at the lowest cost and in a timely manner".
