Ihab Toma will join the company and its board as of 29 August, succeeding previous chief executive at the Houston-based rig owner Paul Bragg.
Toma has since 2014 been employed at global energy industry-focused private equity outfit First Reserve as a senior advisor.
He started his career, however, at Schlumberger in 1986, staying at the oilfield services behemoth until 2009, serving in a variety of roles, many of them related to information solutions.
