ExxonMobil has awarded contracts to SBM Offshore to perform front-end engineering work and, pending a 2017 final investment decision, construct, install and operate a floating production, storage and offloading unit to develop the Liza discovery off Guyana.

The US supermajor's statement Tuesday morning confirms an earlier report by Upstream that the Dutch floater specialist had pulled into a pole position to take the work in a two-way race for the project with Japanese competitor Modec.
