The first crude flows at the field straddling portions of Keathley Canyon blocks 874, 875, 918 and 919 were produced on Friday, junior partner Inpex of Japan said.
Situated around 230 miles (380 kilometres) southwest of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, Lucius lies in 7086 feet (2160 metres) of water.
Oil and natural gas produced at the oil field will be processed at a floating spar facility capable of processing 80,000 barrels of oil and 450 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day.
