Furthermore, production from eight offshore fields using such units is expected to be halted this year, with four already shut in to leave their respective floaters Armada Claire, Petrojarl Varg, OSX 3 and Aoka Mizu high and dry, according to the quarterly report from Energy Maritime Associates (EMA).
The report highlighted an increasing overcapacity of floaters – including FPSOs, FLNGs, FSRUs, tension-leg platforms, spars, semi-submersible platforms, FSOs and mobile offshore production units – as falling oil prices have led to oil companies putting the brakes on field projects.
