Under the terms of the deal announced in June, Fortis agreed to export 800,000 tonnes of LNG from Delta, British Columbia to the US island state for local power generation beginning in 2021. The deal required a C$400-million expansion of the Tilbury LNG facility to include a 1.1-million gigajoule storage tank.
The deal was contingent on Hawaiian Electric's successful merger with the Florida-based NextEra.
