The statewide initiatives would give local governments the authority to regulate oil and gas development and would require a 2500-foot minimum setback for new facilities near permanent structures, including schools and hospitals.
The state requires a petition have roughly 98,000 signatures for placement on the ballot. The Colorado Secretary of State will now conduct a 5% random sample of submitted signatures to determine whether the proposals meet the requirements and has until 7 September to announce whether the initiatives will be on the ballot.
