Speaking to media on the sidelines of the LNG 18 conference in Perth on Wednesday, Frydenberg seemed hopeful the current market conditions would not put companies off forging ahead with developments.

“These projects in many cases have 40 year life spans so, while the prices will fluctuate, the companies have long-term views,” he said.

“They have long-term views about need and they have long-term views about price and therefore major investments can and should go ahead even at times when there is a downturn in their price cycle.”
