Under the deal, with an undisclosed value, Fugro will undertake seabed and shallow geological investigations including in areas of difficult terrain, it said.
The data will be used to optimise planning for the subsequent sediment sampling phase where a variety of techniques will be used.
Fugro will utilise one of its industry leading Hugin 1000 autonomous underwater vehicles to map the seabed for the first phase of the survey, it said.
