Gas leak halts output at Ninian Central
All 168 staff safe after hydrocarbon release on CNR International facility
Production has been halted at CNR International’s Ninian Central platform in the UK North Sea following a gas leak early on Sunday.
“CNR International (UK) can confirm that production has been shut down on its Ninian Central platform after a hydrocarbon release was discovered and promptly isolated this morning (Sunday 26 August),” a spokesperson for the operator said.
“All 168 personnel on board have been accounted for and are safe and well,” the spokesperson added.
Upstream understands the gas release occurred in the platform’s modules 6 and 13 but this remains unconfirmed.
The size and severity of the leak is not yet known.
A spokesperson for the Health & Safety Executive said the regulator was aware and making initial inquiries.
Ninian Central is located in the East Shetland basin about 240 miles north-east of Aberdeen.
