The Russian giant said on Monday that the partial payment was half of the larger agreed sum of $500 million that Ukraine will have to pay for supplies for October.
"Gazprom began supplying gas to Ukraine at 10:00 am (07:00 GMT) today," Gazprom chief executive Alexei Miller said in a statement.
"Ukraine has requested the maximum volume of delivery, at 114 million cubic meters per day, which corresponds to the country’s annual gas imports of 52 billion cubic meters,”he said.
