The Wall Street Journal reported last week that GE was ready to make a move on Baker Hughes, but GE denied it was launching a takeover, although admitting that the pair were in talks on possible partnerships.
The newspaper again on Sunday reiterated that the pair are closing in on a merger deal worth around $30 billion, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter.
