The new BOP system are rated to 20,000 pounds per square inch, 5000 psi higher than GE's current offerings. They will be deployed on targets sitting at depths up to 12,500 feet.
GE said the upgrade required it to "completely re-engineer" the components of its BOP stack.
Among the features of the new BOP are upgraded rams and annulars that are designed for "the specific demands of containing high-pressure, high-temperature reservoirs".
