GE plans to send its first Waukesha VHP units to China before the end of the month, with the first rig scheduled to start operations by September.
"Our agreement with GE strengthens our ability to sell more drill rigs by offering them Waukesha gas engines as a more cost effective on-site power solution,”Honghua president Zhang Mi said.
The 2.8 to 3 megawatt engines can run on a range of natural gas fuels in field, with the aim to reduce emissions, improve efficiency and cut costs over traditional diesel, according to GE.
